Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth

Charlotte Rose de la Force, cousin to Louis XIV, is sent to a convent after a series of scandalous love affairs. In response to her rebellious attitude, she is assigned garden duty. There kindly Soeur Seraphina tells her the story of Margherita, who will become the basis of the story Persinette or Rapunzel.

This was a great book, a great dark retelling of the story Rapunzel, as well as how it came to be. I loved the layers, and how everything was connected. I really enjoyed Charlotte Rose. She's amazing!

Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.
