Rebel Queen by Michelle Moran

Sita, an girl born in an village in India trains hard to become one of Rani Lakshmi's female palace guards, the Durgapur Dal. Going from a rural village, where she is never allowed outside to wearing silk saris is quite a change. As the Rani tries to free her people from the British Rule, Sita become one of the Rani's favored guards, as she speaks English. But peace will come with a heavy price and the Rani takes up arms. Sita must make her stand with the Rani she vowed to protect.

As with all of Michelle Moran's books, this novel is magic. I enjoyed the change in setting, atmosphere and characters. The book was very well written and I liked the diversity of the cast. I also enjoyed the bit of romance. It was a great book!

Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.
