Forever Amber Part I Review

Amber St. Clair is the illegitimate daughter of two star crossed lovers. Though she is noble, she is unaware of it and is raised as a common girl in a farming village. Her beauty and boldness make her both popular and hated in the small community. Seeking to leave, she convinced Lord Carlton to take her to London when he stops in the village overnight. She becomes his lover. Upon his departure to the high seas, she finds herself pregnant and penniless. But Amber is determined to be someone. Her star rises and falls, but her heart is forever Lord Carlton's.
I have heard so many things about this novel. People either love it or loathe it. Amber seems to be the deciding factor. It's volume is quite astounding, and put me off of it for a while. However, I find the book to be fairly easy reading. Amber is an interesting girl. I still am not 100% sure what I think of her. She is comprable to one of the girls that you knew in High School who was popular with the boys. (Guess things don't change much in 400+ years.) I want to like her, but her stupid choices leave me wanting to shake her!! Even with her stupid choices, I want her to succeed. And succeed she does. Even in her darkest hour, she manages to better herself.
Lord Carlton is another character I am unsure of. He seems reasonable and nice. But he is unable to commit, and I feel that he sees Amber as more of a trinket than an actual woman. And I think that he is quite a womanizer.
I love Captain Rex Morgan. Now there is a real man! Sure he is jealous and possessive, but he loves Amber with his whole heart!!
Part II Review will be up next week!!

  2. Yes, it does read quickly! I had to stop myself and read another book before continuing.
There are at times that I loathe Amber SO MUCH that I want to truly stop reading altogether. But, the historical detail that brings Charles II into the story makes me continue. But Amber is worse than Scarlett O'Hara in my opinion!

    Marie-
I've done the same thing. I even had a conversation with my non bookie husband about putting it down. I think I said as much as she annoys me, I have to finish.
    Michelle-
I will be there...with my loathing for Bruce Carlton. That dirty dog!!
